This is me with Kent Bazemore. He is wearing a shirt that I made for him. Kent is a recent graduate of Old Dominion University, where he played basketball. He was a big part of ODU’s success, leading them to a CAA Championship in 2010 & 2011 and NCAA tournament births. Bazemore was also named the best defensive player in college basketball in 2011, as the Lefty Driesell Award winner.
In the 2012 NBA draft, Kent was not drafted – much to the disappointment of ODU fans. He was, however, invited to the NBA Summer League by the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Golden State Warriors (who he had been working out for a lot over the summer prior to the draft). Bazemore impressed the Warriors during Summer League and signed a 2-year deal with Golden State soon after.
Bazemore reached out to me early in the summer to create a shirt for him. During his ODU years, my friends and I created an “IN BAZE WE TRUST” shirt that we wore to the games – for fun to support our favorite player. As a big fan of Kent, on and off the basketball court, I was happy to create another shirt for him.
I met with him before the first ODU football game of the 2012 season, while my friends and I were tailgating – to give him the shirts I had created.. He was thrilled with the shirts and put one on to wear to the football game. During the game, I saw him a few times on the jumbotron waving to fans – wearing the shirt I created for him.
The shirt turned out to be a hit and we’re hoping to get something going online – as the NBA season nears – so that other Bazemore fans, like myself, can purchase a shirt of their own. Stay tuned!
